Daryll Brown |
Until June 2021 Kate managed The Scaladale Outdoor Centre. On moving to Harris in 2016 she transitioned from classroom teacher to outdoor educator and youth worker at Scaladale. Whilst working at the Centre she gained a raft of outdoor qualifications and an intimate knowledge of Harris; its shores and hills.
Kate is a SCA level 3 sea kayak coach and has been coaching and guiding sea kayakers in Harris' sheltered sea lochs and bays for the last 6 seasons. She has introduced countless people, young and old to the activity and has a spotless record for safety. She has developed a deep love for sea kayaking in her amazing island home. She is also a British Cycling level 2 mountain bike leader and Summer Mountain Leader, often leading or assisting Daryll on hill days and mountain bike sessions. |
As a marine biologist and former North Harris Trust Ranger; Daryll has a fantastic eye for wildlife and a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to share. He is your man if you are keen to spot eagles, otters, red deer, mountain hare, and a myriad of birds and marine creatures, which often include minke whales, porpoise and dolphins.
As Ranger, Daryll lead a regular weekly whale and dolphin walk and created the North Harris Snorkel Trail. He now introduces Wild Harris clients and groups of young people to the wonderful underwater world using his BSAC Snorkel Leader qualification at Huisinis Beach and other snorkel trail locations. Daryll is a British Cycling Level 2 Mountain Bike Leader, a T.C.L Cycle Leader and a Bikeability instructor. He is the island's 'go to' man for mountain bike guiding. |
